Josselin

Josselin is a beautiful city located in the department of Morbihan and has a population of around 2,495. Josselin is most famous for its medieval castle which is owned by members of the legendary Rohan family and is open to the public from April to October.

Josselin like many Brittany towns has its fair share of medieval half-timbered houses. Best examples of these are south of the Nantes-Brest canal in the Sainte Croix district. The basilique Notre Dame du Roncier is a prime example of late 15th century Gothic style. At the top of the bell tower there are some stunning panoramic views of the area. On Saturday mornings a lively market fills the streets.

There is plenty to do for all members of the family. In 1984, the doll museum was opened in old stable block in the castle grands. The collection has around 3,000 dolls plus 2,000 other items including children’s toys and books.

A popular place for families is the Bois d’Amour (Love Forest) which is also great for keen walkers and cyclists too but if you just fancy a stroll you can walk along the tow paths by the Nantes-Brest canal which runs through Josselin.
